Message from the Northern Refugee Centre –
Help Northern Refugee Centre continue to give a Northern Welcome to asylum seekers and refugees.
Despite having been successful in developing services for refugees and asylum seekers in the North, we are desperately short of funds to enable us to continue what we have been doing.
We currently provide advice and advocacy for refugees and asylum seekers when they first come to the North and then try and make them as Welcome as possible through our employment, health, women’s, children’s and family services, where we work with staff and volunteers and other organisations. This is to ensure that those refugees and asylum seekers are treated with compassion and dignity, whilst they try to establish a new life and escape the traumas of their old lives. Northern Refugee Centre believes that every refugee and asylum seeker should be treated with respect, wherever they are from, and in the current crisis even more so.
In order to continue what we are doing, we are launching a Public Appeal to raise £100,000 where we are appealing to all sections of society to give generously, as a way of supporting refugees and asylum seekers in this country. For further details on how to donate please go to our website www.nrcentre.org.uk.
Jim Steinke of the Northern Refugee Centre said ” we feel that we simply cannot stop what we are doing, particularly in the face of the current refugee crisis, but without more funding we may have to. We are in the middle of the worst refugee crisis since the war, and we are determined that refugees and asylum seekers coming to the UK, receive the services they deserve. NEVER HAVE WE BEEN NEEDED SO MUCH.
